1965

The year Ole Nonbye founded Nonbye in the basement premises beneath Brunsgaard’s coachbuilding factory in Odder. With the new technology and expertise Ole brought back from Canada, the company specialized in self-adhesive foil. The first major order was a large delivery to B&O.

1983

The development of SpaceMatic – the world’s most advanced plotter machine – has driven significant growth and opened up a new export market for Nonbye. The company has expanded to 50 employees and established its first professional board of directors. With computer-cut text now a necessity, Nonbye begins developing a new cutting plotter capable of scanning and cutting simultaneously.

2001

Nonbye starts their production of illuminated profile letters.

2009

Nonbye continues its journey to becoming one of the leading Nordic players by establishing a presence in Norway.

2014

On January 6th, 2014, after a long and dedicated transformation process, Nonbye proudly achieved ISO 9001 certification. That same year, Nonbye expanded by establishing a new branch in Finland.

2017

With great pride and joy, Nonbye Denmark celebrates its 50th anniversary – the same year Marcus Nydén is appointed CEO of Nonbye Sweden.

2018

With a strong and long relationship with the Volvo Group, Magnum Dekor in Gothenburg joins Nonbye Sweden and the company grows stronger.

2019

Nonbye acquires the Signs and graphics division of Systemtext with big clients such as Rusta, Jula and Subway, thereby securing its position as one of the leading players in the Swedish market.

2023

Nonbye develops its groundbreaking approach, BrandPilot, which immediately creates value for both clients and internal teams.

“If we can put a man on the moon,
surely we can build a letter machine”

Nonbye’s founder, Ole Nonbye, made history in foil technology when he invented
the first machine capable of hot-stamping entire words in foil. Inspired by the
groundbreaking technological achievements of 1969, he expressed his vision with the words:

“If we can put a man on the moon, surely we can build a letter machine”

Exactly ten years after the moon landing, in 1979, the world’s first letter machine
became a reality. Its name, of course: SpaceMatic.

My father was an exceptionally skilled sign painter, where only the very best was ever good enough. It’s quite remarkable to think that a craftsman — with no knowledge of computers, IT, or automation — could realize his vision and be the first in the world to do so!

He was meticulous about both the typefaces and — perhaps most importantly — the spacing between letters. That’s why he developed the digital spacing adjustment system for 575 fonts, covering every combination of letters, numbers, and special characters. That’s roughly 12,000 combinations per typeface.
