Fængslet in Horsens, Denmark, is one of Europe’s most unique cultural destinations – a former state prison transformed into a museum, event space, and creative hub. With its raw architecture and powerful history, the site offers an immersive experience like no other.
To support both visitors and the overall atmosphere, we developed and implemented a custom wayfinding system that balances clarity with character.
Tailored design:
Every detail in the concept is crafted to mirror FÆNGSLET’s strong visual identity. The design language is minimal yet striking, balancing clarity with character. Each element connects to the prison’s unique story, ensuring that the visitor experience feels authentic and true to the brand.
Integrated with the enviroment:
Materials, typography, and sign placements are chosen with respect for the building’s historic architecture. The balance between old and new is carefully maintained, so the wayfinding strengthens the atmosphere rather than competing with it. This creates a seamless integration where every sign feels like a natural part of the surroundings.
Functional and intuitive:
Despite the complex layout of the old prison, the wayfinding system ensures smooth navigation without disrupting the museum experience.
